Mirrors are a part of home decor for more than their practical use of seeing yourself. They reflect light and make a room look larger than it is. Traditionally, they are hung above the sink or vanity table, but you can be creative and experiment with different parts of the home to place your mirror and also find different types of mirrors to hang.
Different Spaces in Your Home to Hang Mirrors
Vanity Mirror in the Bathroom
Placing a mirror above the sink in the bathroom is the most popular choice for obvious reasons. A good size mirror with ample lighting is essential for applying makeup, shaving etc. In addition, to see the back of your head with ease, you could install a wall-hanging mirror with an adjustable arm. Some people find a magnifying mirror as a good addition as well. If you have the budget for it, you can make your mirror above the sink, or a part of it, heated so that it never gets foggy after a hot shower. If you tend to get dressed in the bathroom, you could think of installing a full-length mirror either on a wall or the bathroom door.
A Full-Size Mirror in the Bedroom
You can forego a full-length mirror in the bathroom, but not in the bedroom. It’s essential when getting dressed and heading out. If you don’t like it on the walls or on the wardrobe door, you can hang it on the inside of a hinged wardrobe so that it won’t be seen when it’s closed. Make sure that you have enough space in front of the mirror for you to step back and see your entire body, and thus making sure that you don’t miss any wardrobe malfunctions. If you have a small bedroom, it’s a good idea to get mirrored wardrobe doors so that your room looks much bigger than it is.
If you don’t have space for a full vanity table in your room, you can convert your side table into a vanity table by hanging a mirror above it and placing your makeup on the table like in the image below.
Mirror in the Foyer
Placing a mirror near the main door of your home allows you to have one quick check before you head out. It can also be a very stylish addition if you want to create a cute little nook. Perhaps a small round mirror or an antique will go well with your decor. Under the mirror, you can place a table with a basket to hold your keys, some change, shades etc. You can also place hooks to hang jackets, dog leash, and more. Mirror as Backsplash in the Kitchen
If you have a small, modern kitchen, using a mirror as the backsplash can be a stylish option. It will make your kitchen appear visually larger.
Double the Beauty with Mirrors in the Dining Room
If you have a buffet table by the wall in your dining room, place a mirror above it to reflect all the yummy food when you have guests over. Or you can place some candles and reflect the pretty light.
Choose a Mirror in the Living Room
A mirror over the fireplace or the sofa is a simple way to amp up the light in the room. Choose a frame that goes well with the decor of the room and your mirror can be the icing on the cake. In the picture below, the antique-looking frame goes beautifully with the white sofa and wall, giving a classic look to the room.
If any of your living room, or any other room for that matter, happen to be small, you can install a large mirror covering an entire wall like in the image below so that space appears much bigger than it is.
Light up the Hallway with a Mirror
Some homes have long hallways without much natural light. Sure you can decorate these long, blank walls with a gallery wall or even one large painting, but placing a mirror can reflect light in the space and make it look much brighter even without much artificial lighting. You can go for one large mirror or multiple mirrors to create a gallery wall look.
